Duties of The Best Man
When you are asked to be a best man, you are being given a great honor. If you accept this honor, You are taking on an important responsibility. In large part, you will perform many of the wedding tasks so the groom doesn't have to worry about them, and help out your brother or friend at a time when he needs you most. So, how does one become the
best of Best Men? Well, here are some tips from the Duke:
1. Start saving. You'll be paying for your tuxedo, the bachelor party and gifts.
2. Be sure you show up on time or at least 15 minutes early to every event connected with the wedding.
3. Plan a bachelor party that reflects the groom's and his personality.
4. Make all the arrangements for transportation to move the newly married couple to the reception after the wedding and then to whatever destination they are heading to
after the reception. Make sure it arrives on time, and decide if and how the groomsmen will decorate it.
5. Take charge of selecting the ushers' tuxedo rentals and sizing. Consult with the groom about the attire for the male attendants. Arrange for all groomsmen's tux rentals,
including their measurements. You'll also be in charge of returning them. You want to coordinate the pick up of the tuxedo's to make sure they are picked up and ready
the day before the wedding, as well as returned on time after the wedding.
6. Help the groom make sure he has what he needs for the wedding like the Brides ring (which you would hold until needed if there is not a ring bearer), the marriage license,
everything he needs for the honeymoon (check out out honeymoon checklist suggestions)
7. Help the groom get to the wedding location on time or earlier.
8. Help the groom get dressed before the wedding. Keep the groom calm before the ceremony. Give him water or anything else he needs. Funny stories, jokes or other humor
helps break tension. Sometimes even just talking helps pass the time.
9. At he ceremony or reception, if things go awry, take charge and fix it as the bride and groom have others things to attend to.
10. At the wedding reception and the rehearsal dinner, you will make the first toast to the bride and groom. (Toasting is better than Roasting but look at Roasting and Toasting
tips page.) Prepare a sentimental or funny toast for the rehearsal dinner and reception. If you're shy, simply ask everyone to raise their glasses to the couple's happiness

11. Make sure the ushers are ready before the ceremony begins. Lead the groomsmen in ushering guests into the church and bridesmaids down the aisle.
12. It's not all work.... Be sure to dance with the bride and each bridal attendant and don't forget the Mother of the Groom and Bride..
13. Order champagne for the bridal suite. Enclose a nice thought with this gift.
